Jack Leggett Postgame Comments
Leggett: Yeah, we did. Our left handed hitters today especially did a good job for us. McCann got us going hitting that first ball out and getting us going.
This really felt like a "must-win" game today. Would you agree?
Leggett: I think so. We made the statement that we can play with them. We had to get ourselves back after exams and get some rhythm back. We just needed to go out there and have a good, solid game and we did that today.
The offense seemed to be really struggling after the 3rd or 4th inning of game one. How good did it feel to see your bats come alive again?
Leggett: It felt real good to see the ball just out of their reach. The other day their center fielder did a real good job of tracking the ball down and making some plays. They've got three really good outfielders and we couldn't find many holes out there the last couple of days. Today, we were fortunate to be able to find some spots where they couldn't run them down.
You guys set the tone early in this game with 16 runs in the first three innings. Obviously it was good to see your offense come alive so early in the game.
Leggett: We got started early today and saw the ball well. I took a look at the pitcher and I thought we got some good swings in today. We had to win today. We couldn't let what happened at Virginia after two games run into the third one. We were able to stop gap a little bit and play well today.
Does it mean any more to win the game in the fashion that you did?
Leggett: Well I like the way we swung the bats. That means a lot to us and it makes everbody feel good. A lot of them were hit hard and a lot of them were extra base hits. That's a good statement. That's a good thing to walk out of this game with. It's a little better than struggling and winning the game 3-1 or something like that.
