The former Lamar High standout plans to get an early start on his college career. "I'm going to the second session of summer school. I'll be there in the end of June." Hamlin says his grades and test scores are in good shape.

"I'm excited. I'm ready to get there. I'm working on my speed and my strength. I'm also working on my foot work."

Hamlin's brother will be one of the top recruits in South Carolina next season. "I told him to follow his heart. I'm going to try to get him up there but I will let him make up his own mind."

The 6-2, 185-pound defender had an opportunity to watch the Tigers practice earlier this spring. "I went up the week before the Orange & White scrimmage. I watched them practice Friday. It was a learning experience. The coaches talked with the players about what they need to work on during practice."

As most fans remember, the Tigers and Gamecocks battled until the end for the prize recruit. "It's a real big relief. Now I can focus on one school. Instead of worrying about what is going on at different schools I can focus on just one."

Coach Burns has kept in close contact with Hamlin, as he gets ready for his college experience. "I'm hearing a lot from the coaches. They are ready for me to get up there. Coach Burns told me to work out hard and be ready."

So what is Mike Hamlin looking forward to the most this fall? "I guess the environment. I can't wait to get there and hang out with the team."

We will continue to keep you updated on this future Tiger, right up through the first day of practice in August.
