CB Darlron Spead
5-11, 175, 4.5
Camden County High School
Darlron Spead is one of the better cover corners in the state of GA for the class of '05, and he has already picked up 2 early offers.
"Duke and Middle Tennessee State have offered me a scholarship, and Ball State should do that soon as well. My favorite schools right now are Maryland, Duke, Central Florida, Clemson, Auburn and Georgia."
What stands out about each of his favorites?
Maryland: "I liked their film a lot. I liked how they use the DB's and they said that I would have a chance to play early."
Duke: "They are a young team and they had a good season last year. They also have very good academics."
Central Florida: "Coach O'Leary called me and told a lot of good things about the school. He talked to me like a friend instead of like a recruit."
Clemson: "It's the atmosphere. I watch them on TV and I love their games. They just have a great atmosphere."
Auburn: "I like the atmosphere at Auburn as well. They have a great defense, and also great academics from what I've heard."
Georgia: "I always grew up loving Georgia. I've always seen myself going there, but they haven't talked to me that much."
What is most important for Spead in picking a school?
"The one thing is really good academics. I want to major in International Business or maybe mathematics. That's one reason I like South Carolina for instance, because they have a great International Business school. The football doesn't have to be great, but I want to go to a program that's headed in the right direction."
With Camden approaching 2004 with the label of "defending state champions," does Spead f
eel there's any pressure on his squad to win?
"Everybody wants to beat us. They're going to be gunning for us just like they were during track so we've got to stay focused. Were going to have to score more points than we did last year, and play better defense if were going to repeat."
