Belton Honea Path (S.C.) offensive lineman Barry Humphries said off-the-record on Thursday of last week that if Clemson offered, he would jump on it.

He didn't have to wait very long.

"I just committed about an hour ago to the coaches," says the 6-foot-3, 291 pounder who holds several school weightlifting records including a 405 bench and 570 squat.

"The (Clemson) coaches said ‘We want you, we want you to be a Tiger, and we can make that happen.' My family and I said that it was where we wanted to be, and I committed."

Humphries, who projects as an interior lineman though he plays strongside tackle in high school, committed to the Tigers over Maryland, Tennessee, North Carolina (offered), Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest (offered).

Grades will not be a problem with Barry Humphries, as he currently boasts a GPA of 3.3, and has already scored a 22 on his ACT.

We will have much more on the first commitment to Clemson for the 2005 recruiting class, later this evening.
