Tigers Leading the Way for Georgia Sleeper

Woodstock (Ga.) tight end Tripp Chandler went from practically an unknown to one of the fastest rising prospects in the nation in a matter of a day after posting one of the more impressive forty-times at the Nike Combine held in Atlanta back in early May.

"I went to the Nike Camp and I'm 6-5 and weigh 230 and I ran a 4.70-forty," stated Chandler. "I think I just impressed a lot of coaches. To be as big as I am and as fast and I rarely drop a ball so that has caught a lot of coaches.

"Ball State offered me probably right after they saw me in spring practice in early May," he added. "I went to Georgia Tech's one-day camp and that night they called and they offered. And I'm guessing Clemson got wind of that because they called three or four days after that and offered me."

In addition to Georgia Tech's camp, Chandler has camped at Auburn, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Georgia, and Florida. Additionally, the 6-foot-5, 230-pounder has unofficially visited the campuses of Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Arkansas State, Memphis, and Tennessee.

At this stage Chandler is fairly open. However, he admits to looking closer into five particular schools.

"Probably my top five, I would say, is Clemson, Georgia Tech, Georgia and Florida and Auburn," remarked Chandler.

"With the exception of Georgia Tech, which I had to list them because it's a big school and they offered me, all are just major college towns. I have always loved college towns because the atmosphere before a game is just unbelievable to be in."

Named to the All-County team, Chandler pulled in 18 catches for 420 yards during his junior season. He figures to be a bigger part of the passing game his senior year.
