Austin, who chose Clemson over Auburn, Maryland, and Vanderbilt, made his commitment to Clemson assistant coach Brad Scott during the last 24 hours.

The formal annoucement is expected to be announced in tomorrow morning's newspaper in Camden.

"I like Clemson's small town atmosphere," said Austin in an interview with last week. "I also like the job security of the coaches. At South Carolina, for example, I don't know how long the head coach with be there, and if he gets fired in two years, probably all the other coaches will go with him. Then there will be a whole new coaching staff."

"I like (Clemson) coach Brad Scott because he's very strict and precise in technique and he goes into a lot of detail. He also just signed a five year contract so I know he'll always be there," Austin added.

Austin becomes the 8th verbal commitment for the Tigers in the 2005 recruiting class, and the third offensive lineman.

Academics should not be an issue for Austin who currently carries a 3.4 GPA and an 1100 on his SAT.
