Big Maryland Lineman Likes Clemson

With eight offers in hand, Germantown (Md.) Seneca Valley offensive lineman Jon Walko solidified a top three a little over a month ago. That top three has stayed intact – and should remain intact until decision time – despite the efforts of the other five offering schools.

"My top three are Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Clemson," stated Walko. "I like Clemson because it wasn't a huge college town where it was too big. It was a nice college town. Death Valley is really something to see. They're getting their whole weight room renovated too. They have really top quality facilities.

"Virginia Tech, they're getting a new addition for their stadium and they're getting a new building for academics for tutoring of football players. I like how everything is in close proximity where you don't have to go across campus to get to the football stuff. I like that a lot.

"West Virginia, I got along well with the offensive line coach. They have a real impressive weight room. They just got the new field turf too."

With a firm final three, it seems like only a matter of time before the 6-foot-6, 288-pounder seals the deal with a verbal commitment. But actually, Walko plans on waiting until he can soak in a few games before deciding.

"I've got no idea exactly," remarked Walko, who touch with each of his favorites via email. "I'll probably decide sometime during the season. I want to get down to some games and check out the game atmosphere."

Unlike many of his peers, Walko has not tasted the summer camping circuit. But don't think the 2nd Team Class AAA All-State selection has been sitting around slacking.

"Summer school and football workouts, that's pretty much how my day goes," Jon Walko said. "1st session [of summer school] is over this Thursday and then I go back again soon after that."

We will continue to keep you updated on Jon Walko, right up through signing day.
