Tigers Picked 4th in ACC Preseason Poll

Greensboro, N.C.- The Clemson Tigers were voted 4th by the ACC Media Monday afternoon in 2004 Preseason Poll. FSU was voted the preseason #1 team with 925 votes and 49 first place votes. Miami was second followed by Virginia, Clemson, and Maryland.

Clemson was tabbed to finish fourth in the inaugural year of the 11-team ACC football race in a survey of the media at the 2004 ACC Football Kickoff in Greensboro today.

Florida State garnered the most first-place votes with 49 and a total of 925 points. Miami was second with 36 first-place votes and 913 points. Virginia (2) was third with 697 points and Clemson (1) was fourth with 664 points. The Cavaliers and Tigers were the only other two schools to receive first place votes.

Maryland was fifth with 653 points, Virginia Tech was sixth with 511 points, NC State was seventh with 509 points and Georgia Tech was eighth with 365 points.

Clemson will open the season on Saturday, Sept. 4 at home against Wake Forest. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 pm and will be televised by ABC.

"Fourth is alright," said head coach Tommy Bowden.

"I don't know what we were picked last year, maybe fifth? It's kind of a non-factor as you go through the season but it's good for the media to write about. I guess other than Maryland, they ought to be bumped up higher, but to me those first two (FSU & Miami) are where they should be."
