The Clemson Tigers will battle the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on December 31, 2001 at the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho. This marks the 3rd straight year that Tommy Bowden has led the Tigers to a bowl game.

Louisiana Tech, champions of the Western Athletic Conference, has been a solid team all season long, with close losses to Auburn, Fresno State, and Oklahoma State. The Auburn game was an overtime thriller as Louisiana Tech rallied from a 14-point 4th quarter deficit to send the game into overtime. They eventually lost 48-41.

At 7-4, Louisiana Tech won the WAC by losing only one football game- to Fresno State. Overall, they finished the year an impressive 7-1 in conference play.

Known as primarily a passing team, the Bulldogs rank #8 nationally in passing offense, at just over 313 yards a game. On the flip side, they are not effective running the ball, ranking 100 out of a possible 114 teams in rushing offense.

Defensively, the Bulldogs have not been that effective this year, ranking 99th in the country in total defense, and 88th in scoring defense.
