Byrd to Decide by Mid-Season?

A very humble and open person off the field, North Augusta (S.C.) safety and wide receiver C.J. Byrd says he will play whatever position can get him on the field early in his collegiate career. He is just as open with his recruitment right now.

"It was hard to narrow it down," says the five star athlete. "Southern Cal, they are the national champions. Georgia, great overall school. Florida, Chris Leak. Florida State, just a great team through the years. Clemson is home."

The Trojans are recruiting Byrd very hard, sending him several hand-written notes per day, but that is just the norm for a highly touted prospect.

"It's about even through all of them. Southern Cal is sending me stuff through the coaches, so that is why the coaches know how much they are sending."

The other schools are sending just as much to his home address, and the mail pile is starting to grow.

"It is big."

Now that he is down to a manageable five, the letters are starting to decrease as a whole, and he should begin to set up his visits soon.

"I think during the middle of the season. I don't know when I will decide, probably the middle of the season."
