Tuesday Evening Practice Report

The Clemson Tigers returned to the practice fields again Tuesday in preparation for next Saturday's season opener against Wake Forest. As always, CUTigers.com has the latest, live from Clemson University.

The Clemson Tigers practiced for a little over two hours and half hours in stormy conditions this afternoon. Practice began around 4:00 PM and ended after 6:30.

"We thought we were going to have to come off after two hours," said Bowden referring to the dark skies around campus. "But the players played through it and we've had two enthusiastic practices back to back."

Some of the major announcements today involved a player returning to action for practice, and also a player returning during the regular season.

Injury Updates
Reserve wide receiver Michael Collins was back at practice today after suffering a quad injury earlier this preseason.

"Michael Collins came back and did not go the whole practice," said Bowden. "But he did pretty good. He looked good today for it being his first game back. He wasn't hit, but he's got 10 days left to get ready for Wake Forest."

Whip LB Eric Sampson missed today's practice with a shoulder injury, however it is not believed to be serious. Marion Dukes also returned to practice after a rib injury suffered yesterday.

"Tye Hill has missed a couple of days due to a turf toe injury, but he is back and full strength and continues to improve," said Bowden.

Which Freshmen will Play?
With the season opener squarely on the horizon, the coaching staff appears to be settling in on several true freshmen that will likely avoid redshirts this year. After practice this afternoon, Bowden mentioned several players that could play this season.

"I'd say La'Donte Harris probably will play," said Bowden. "He might start on special teams or be on the second team. He's pretty durable, his body type is a little thicker. Aaron (Kelly) is a little thinner, so is (Andrew) Diomande."

Bowden also said that his two freshmen tackles, Akeem Robinson and Barry Richardson, will probably play this year. Columbia native Dorrel Scott is also garnering consideration for early playing time, but Bowden said that he'd like to redshirt him if at all possible.

Parting Shots
Bowden announced today that DT Chris McDuffie will be suspended for the first game this year...Freshmen Aaron Kelly and Xavier Littleberry were also singled out today by Bowden...Littleberry is playing tight end...Will Proctor was also noted as a player that has looked strong in practice during recent days...Bowden said that the team was fortunate to get a full practice in today, "The lightning was just over six miles away according to our weather system, and if it gets inside the six miles we have to come off the field. But, we had good enthusiasm and a good practice. We got a lot done."

The Tigers will return to practice tomorrow afternoon. All practices and scrimmages are closed to the general public.
