Tigers Topple 4th Ranked Texas A&M, 4-1

Kelly Schneider recorded a goal and an assist and freshman goal keeper Ashley Phillips made six saves Sunday night, leading Clemson to a convincing 4-1 victory over Texas A&M.

The victory gave Clemson a 2-0 record for the season and both wins have come in the state of Texas over top five teams. On Friday night the Lady Tigers defeated a fourth-ranked Texas team 1-0.

Texas A&M fell to 1-1 for the young season. The Aggies had beaten 15th ranked Michigan in its opener on Friday evening.

The victories on this trip represent the two highest ranked road wins in Clemson women's soccer history. Clemson entered the season ranked 12th in Soccer America, but unranked in the Coach's Association poll.

Clemson took a 1-0 lead at the 33:17 mark on a goal by senior Lindsay Browne. Just under seven minutes later, Lydia Vandenbergh took a pass from Paige Ledford and scored Clemson's second goal of the evening. Ledford had scored Clemson's only goal in its win over Texas on Friday night.

Schneider, a sophomore from Mauldin, SC gave Clemson a 3-0 lead at the 65:42 mark. She then assisted on the first career goal by freshman Jacquelyn Hines at the 77:17 mark, giving the Lady Tigers a 4-0 lead.

Clemson took just 10 shots, but made four of them on Sunday evening.

Texas A&M finally got on the board with just over five minutes left on a goal by Cristina Echavarry.

Clemson goal keeper Ashley Phillips had her second consecutive outstanding game for Todd Bramble's team, as she made six saves and gave up just one goal. She had nine saves in the shutout of Texas on Friday evening. Clemson will next be in action on Friday night when the Lady Tigers play host to Furman at Historic Riggs Field at 7:30 PM.
