Is there something extra inside of you for this season opener because you are playing the last team that beat in 2003?
Fudge: I think anytime you play in the first game you are kind of anxious to play no matter who it is. Nobody's played a game in like nine months, so with that you just have to go out and keep your poise and confidence.
But with the opener being against Wake Forest, does that make things any different for you?
Fudge: I think it does. We know in the back of our minds that Wake Forest blew us out last year but we try not to focus on that. We just have to come back this year on Saturday and limit the mistakes we made last year and limit their points.
Do you feel like this team is at the same confidence level that it was after the Peach Bowl win over Tennessee right now?
Fudge: I think so. We are a very confident defense moving around and our offense is executing. If we keep doing that and make plays, we'll be pretty good.
What does the Wake Forest offense do specifically that can give you guys problems on Saturday?
Fudge: I think it's just a lot of misdirection, a lot of formations, and a lot of motion. With that, you've just got to know who you got and keep your responsibilities. If you have a mind freeze, then you know it's a big gain or a touchdown, so you have to stay poised and confident.
As a rover/safety, is that difficult for you? Because if you make one wrong move then it's a touchdown.
Fudge: Yeah. With that kind of offense, they can make a lot of things happen. Using that misdirection you can get caught up and come up too fast. You just have to stay on your toes at all times.
Is revenge a motivating factor for this team this year?
Fudge: No I don't think so. This is the first game of the season and we want to start it out right. This is our first conference game of the season too. That's enough said in itself. We just need to start this off right.
Looking back to last season's opener, you guys didn't play one of your best games against Georgia. Is there anything you try to do differently this go around?
Fudge: We just can't have mistakes, missed tackles and assignments. I think we also kind of had a lack of effort in that game. We can't have any of that and we need to come together and play as a team. If we do all of that we'll be fine.
