Wednesday Evening Practice Report

The Clemson Tigers returned to the practice fields Wednesday afternoon in preparation for Saturday's game against Georgia Tech. As always, has the latest, live from Clemson University.

For the first time this week, the Tigers were able to get a practice under reasonable weather conditions Wednesday afternoon. With the departure of tropical storm Francis, the skies cleared just long enough for the team to get some work done on the new field turf.

"That field really helps, then the offense went over to the third field and we did some scout team work," said head coach Tommy Bowden. "We went best-on-best on that field turf and it really helped."

Coleman Update
As Saturday's game against Georgia Tech creeps closer, the number of questions surrounding running back Duane Coleman continues to grow.

After holding Coleman essentially out of practice yesterday, Bowden was even more pessimistic about his chances of playing after practice this afternoon.

"It's less than what it was yesterday," said Bowden. "I don't want to say 'no way,' but it was less than what it was yesterday. He didn't do anything out there today."

Coleman was wearing yellow jersey today and appears to be walking fine, however the general consensus seems to be that he's still a week away from seeing the field.

Bulletin Board Material
Last year, much was made of freshman quarterback Reggie Ball, and his guarantee before the Clemson game that Georgia Tech wouldn't lose another game that year.

This year, the Yellow Jackets may have to combat another statement- but this time from head coach Chan Gailey. Gailey was quoted as saying that Death Valley is just like playing in "any other" stadium in the ACC earlier this week.

"It's been discussed," Bowden smirked when asked if that would go up on the team bulletin board this week.

When told that Gailey had revised that statement today, Bowden said, "Too late," which drew an enormous laugh from the crowd of reporters. "Sorry Chan, the revision is not good enough," added the sixth year head coach. "Us and Wallace-Wade, the same environment?"

Difficult Day Tomorrow
Bowden will make the short flight in a private plane to Florida tomorrow to attend the funeral of his ex brother-in-law and newphew.

"I think I fly out at 8:15, and of course they are central time, and the funeral is at 10. I'm not sure what the family is going to do afterwards. I know my father is trying to get down to Miami as soon as he can afterwards, but I'm not sure if my family has got a plan. (on what will happen afterwards)"

Bowden doesn't know if he will be back for practice tomorrow evening or for his weekly call-in radio show Thursday night. Coach O'Cain and Coach Lovett would do the show should Bowden not make it back.
