OL Thomas Austin
6-4, 270, 5.1
Camden High School
Camden, South Carolina
Did you expect such a hard fought game out there tonight?
Austin: It sure was. We knew coming in here that they would be a good physical team. They played us hard like they always do. The defense did a great job of holding them on short yardage. They stopped them on 4th down and 1. We were in the redzone probably 5 or 6 times. We just couldn't punch it in there. We really need to work on that come Monday.
Were you playing injured out there tonight?
Austin: Yes sir, I pulled a muscle in my back last week and tried to nurse it this week. I didn't practice Monday or Tuesday. We are so hurt on the line that I can't afford to miss it. We already had 2 of our lineman out with torn ACL's. They guys have done a good job of stepping in so we have to get this thing fixed and see how it goes.
Was that your younger brother playing so well at defensive end for Camden?
Austin: That's my little brother Joshua. He is just a sophomore. He had a good sack and he played well.
Will you be trying to get your younger brother to join you in Tiger Town in a few years?
Austin: Yes sir, I definitely will.
Are you still firm with your commitment to Clemson?
Austin: Definitely, I'm not changing that. I will be a Tiger.
How do you feel about the Tigers season?
Austin: They are struggling a little bit and making a lot of mistakes and turnovers. Those are things they can't afford to do in the league they play in. The coaches are working hard. I have a lot of faith in Coach Scott and the offensive line. I know Coach Bowden and all the coaches are working hard. They are going to battle back.
What are your thoughts on some of the younger linemen Clemson is recruiting right now?
Austin: I definitely think there is a great recruiting class coming up. With the freshmen they have now. I know they have some young big tackles. They have some good athletes. I think the offensive line will be solid for the next several years.
Do you plan to come to any more Clemson home games this season?
Austin: Yes sir. I will be up for Maryland and North Carolina State. I will probably also come up for the South Carolina game.
We will continue to keep you updated on this future Tiger lineman, right up through signing day 2005.
Austin Firm as Ever
