Charlie, how was the off-week?
Whitehurst: It's been nice. It came at a good time for us. I think we needed the week off. We got some good work done and rested up a good bit so I think it's been productive.
Do you feel better with Barry Richardson on that left side of the line protecting your blind side now?
Whitehurst: I like his body type to tell you the truth. You know Jesse is a big guy at 285 and maybe 6-5, but he doesn't compare to Barry physically. He is a freshman and still new. You expect him to go out there and execute every play perfectly. Is that going to happen? Probably not. But definitely it will be a tremendous learning experience for him and I hope he can play well this week and I'm sure he will play real well the week following with the experience he will get.
Coach Bowden talked about that you are trying to start the season over with a clean slate and trying to forget some of the things that have happened earlier this year. Can you turn things around with just one win against Virginia?
Whitehurst: Yeah, I think so. If that would happen we would all use that as the turnaround, even though we are still 2-3 if we can get the win. We are trying to start over and put the last four behind us. We did some good things and some bad things but [we can] start over and play a seven game season.
Everyone is talking about Justin Miller playing on offense. Would you like to see him over there? Do you think he could help you guys out?
Whitehurst: Well, he's an unbelievable athlete. He's done it before. He's played some offense. I know he could help us and it would be nice to have him.
The running game, is it still a work in progress? Are you guys going to try to focus on that a little more this week against Virginia?
Whitehurst: Maybe a little bit. The defense they play dares you to run the ball. They give you the numbers to run and they feel like they can stop you with one less and cover with one more. We are going to give it a try and I have confidence we are going to be able to do it.
