"We've Got to Do Something"

Line Up Changes?
There were no major line up changes announced after Monday's practice, but head coach Tommy Bowden did say that one defensive lineman may warrant more playing time this Saturday against Utah State.

"Cory Groover played real good," said Bowden in reference to the Virginia game. "He's healthy and he might be bracketed with Trey Tate.

"He's gotten healthy, he's a little more familiar with the position. I think he led all defensive ends and defensive tackles." (3 first hits, 3 assists)

Bowden said that there could be further changes announced later in the week.

4th Quarter Woes
After the team fixed it's turnover problem against Virginia and still lost the game, it became apparent to Tommy Bowden that there were some other areas that may need to be addressed.

"We've got to do something," said Bowden. "And that's what I kind of said to the team after the game. As I told the team, hey, I've got to give ya'll a better chance to win the game, and ya'll have got to do your part. You've got to tackle better. We had more missed tackles. There was no reason to have as many missed tackles as we had.

"It's my job to give them a scheme that can be productive. That's what I've got to do. We've had five games and every one of them has been close in the 4th quarter. It's my job to make up that difference in the 4th quarter. We've got to do a better job scheming the big play if they aren't going to get enough at bats.

"I've got to start with me. I've got veto or approve the plans going into the game. I need to do something to get us that extra 4th quarter surge that we need."

Confidence of the Team
Sitting at 1-4 five games into the season, the confidence of the team has certainly come into question this week. Bowden said Monday that the biggest thing that could help them out in the confidence department would be to just go out and get a win Saturday against Utah State.

"I think the best thing we need right now is to win a game," said Bowden. "When you look at our five games and seen how they've gone…we are trying halfback passes, we are trying reverses. The players have to do their job, and I've got to do my job and obviously give us the best chance to win.

"I think winning is the boost of confidence they need. I know they are frustrated, everybody's frustrated, and it's okay to be frustrated. Just don't be pointing fingers and show some responsibility."
