RB Reggie Merriweather Commits To Clemson

One of the top running backs in the state of South Carolina has said he's coming to Clemson. North Augusta's Reggie Merriweather, the leading ground gainer in the state, has given his verbal commitment to the Tigers. Its another big win for Clemson Recruiting Coordinator Rick Stockstill.

What we thought would occur before the start of the new year, finally did last night.

RB Reggie Merriweather (5'10, 193, 4.5), the top ground gainer in the state of South Carolina committed to the Tigers over the Florida, Michigan State, and Indiana.

He will still honor his official visits to Clemson on January 11 and to Florida on the 18th.

"Clemson has always been the perfect fit for me and I've felt right at home there. I knew Clemson was where I was going. I just had to be sure. All along, that's where my heart was. They have a good program up there and I feel I can come in and make an impact. They're definitely on the rise," said Merriweather.

As a junior, Merriweather registered almost 1,900 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. This past season, he helped lead his team to a 9-3 record as he ran for 2,486 yards rushing on 351 carries (7.1 avg). He also scored 29 touchdowns, which was led the state.

Merriweather becomes the first true running back that has given his verbal commitment to Clemson, and another big-time win for recruiting coordinator Rick Stockstill. He is described as a back with great patience that can break tackles down the field and gain chunks of yardage with regularity. He also is known as an athlete that can "take it to the house" on any given play.
