Sykes Commits to Clemson

The Clemson Tigers reached into the state of Florida and found themselves an interior prospect. Raymond Sykes, a 6-foot-9 power forward/center, committed to the Tigers after considering South Florida.

Sykes attends high school at Jacksonville (Fla.) Jackson High and ran with Tom Topping's Team Florida in the spring and summer. An excellent athlete, Topping said that Clemson is committed to developing his player.

"I think that they see a big upside in Raymond and I think he knows that his best basketball is ahead of him," Topping said. "They're willing to really work with him and develop his game.

"Physically he's a great athlete and he's got a great attitude and great heart. He really needs to be molded into a player. They'll be patient with him and work him along."

The Tigers coaching staff played a big part in getting Sykes out of Florida. "I think the lure of playing in the ACC was big for him. I know that the coaching staff there is terrific. He was very high on the coaching staff and excited to play in that league and he enjoyed his visit."

Sykes becomes the third commitment to the Tigers in this year's recruiting class.
