The Game: South Carolina (6-4, 4-4) at Clemson (5-5, 4-4)

Location: Memorial Stadium (81,096)

TV Coverage: Jefferson-Pilot

Radio Coverage: 104.9 WCCP FM

Spread: Clemson is favored by 3 points over South Carolina.

Coaches: Clemson's Tommy Bowden is 43-29 in his sixth season in Tiger Town (61-33 overall) and South Carolina's Lou Holtz is 33-36 (249-131-7 overall) in his sixth and final year in Columbia. Bowden has dominated his counterpart since their simultaneous arrival six years ago, winning four of the five games played between these two schools.

Forecast: Temperatures are expected to be in the mid 60's for Saturday's noon kickoff. Skies should be partly cloudy.

Series: Clemson leads the overall series 61-36-4. Clemson has not lost to South Carolina Death Valley since 1996.

What to Watch: The talk in Columbia this week has centered around the arrival of new head coach Steve Spurrier. Will that serve as a distraction in this game? That question is just one of several major story lines worth noting.

The Tigers are coming off of the worst losses in school history, only one week removed from an upset road win over the nationally ranked Miami Hurricanes. Does Clemson have enough left in the tank after a roller coaster season to close the deal against its archrival?

Defensively, the Gamecocks appear to be vulernable across the middle of the field, but safety Ko Simpson, one of the top freshmen in the country this year, will try to stop those woes against Clemson. USC currently ranks dead last in the SEC in sacks with just 10 on the season.

Offensively, the Gamecocks will use a trio of quarterbacks, including two that signal callers that are banged up in Dondrial Pinkins and Syvelle Newton. The goal for South Carolina is simple: establish the running game and let the quarterbacks manage the game. Look for RB Demetris Summers to receive the most carries of his career this afternoon.
