Former 4-star wide receiver Derrick McPhearson, from Dematha Catholic, did it all for Fork Union Academy this fall. "It went well," said McPhearson of his season. "I played primarily as an athlete. I played some QB, of course receiver, and also defensive back."

McPhearson also became good friends with a couple of future Tigers that also attend Fork Union in Phillip Merling and Durrell Barry. Both players signed with Clemson in February 2004, before enrolling at Fork Union.

"I am pretty good friends with Durrell and Phillip," said McPhearson. "We are in the same company so we spend a lot of time together you could say."

The talented athlete is also a great baseball player and would like to play both sports on the collegiate level. "I want to play both. Everybody is fine with me playing both. I won't let that restrict my decision."

In terms of the recruiting process, several schools are on his wish list, including Clemson.

"I don't have a leader right now, I am wide open. I don't have all of my five visits setup yet, so it would be hard for me to name a favoite. I guess once I have them all set you can say they are my favorites."

The official visit tour is starting to take shape. "I am going to visit Maryland on December 10 and Clemson on January 14. I am also going to visit LSU. I am not sure about the other visits right now.

"Florida is still in the mix. I signed with them before so I will give them a look. I continue to hear from their coaching staff," added McPhearson.

The star athlete is unsure about his decision timing. "I don't know when I will make my decision. I am not trying to rush anything. I'm starting all over. I've been through this before so I know what to expect."
