ATH Antavious Coates

Greenwood High School
Greenwood, South Carolina
The 6-foot-4, 195 pound safety committed to Georgia earlier this year, but now the Bulldogs have also picked up a commitment from 5-star WR/S C.J. Byrd. Will Byrd's commitment have an impact on his commitment?
"No sir," Coates said in a recent interview with CUTigers.com. "I knew for a while because we are good friends. We have been talking about playing together for a while."
Coates has been convinced that he and Byrd could both hit the field together in Athens. "Coach said we could be like Blue and Davis. One of us at rover and one at safety. We have a great opportunity to be on the field at the same time. Imagine that. Two prospects from South Carolina playing defensive back for Georgia."
The Tigers will get one last opportunity to sway the Greenwood star defender. "I still plan to take my visit to Clemson on January 21," added Coates. "They have a shot since they are getting a visit." The prize recruit also plans to visit South Carolina on December 10.
Coates is working hard to recover from a knee injury. "I have been rehabbing every day. I will start walking next week. By March I hope to be ready to run."
Wherever Coates enrolls he plans to get an early start on his college career. "I plan to enroll in June. I want to get started."
We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding safety from South Carolina, right up through signing day 2005.
Is Coates Still Firm to UGA?
