Thielen Smith Dismissed learns of an assistant coach that was let go this afternoon. <BR> confirmed Smith's dismissal just a short a while ago.

Thielen Smith was informed of the decision earlier today in a one-on-one meeting with Tommy Bowden.

Smith, a native of Louisiana, just completed his sixth year on Clemson's coaching staff - eighth under Bowden counting his time at Tulane.

He coached the defensive interior linemen from 1999-2003 at Clemson, before moving over to be the whip/safeties coach this past year.

Smith is the third coach to be let go by Tommy Bowden this year. Defensive coordinator John Lovett and offensive Mike O'Cain earlier this week.
