Sunday night the talented defender decided it was time to commit to the Tigers. CUTigers.com has an in-depth interview with the newest Tiger commitment.
The 6-6, 250 pound prospect camped at Clemson last summer where he fell in love with the Tigers. "I loved the camp. It was everything I expected. Right after camp they took me out and showed me around. Coach Bowden offered me right then," said Murchison.
Pinecrest High struggled this season, but Murchinson had an outstanding season. "I had a little over 30 sacks. I averaged three sacks and five tackles a game. I also played a little tight end where I caught 4 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns.
"Late Sunday Coach West Called. We talked for a while. I had wanted to commit for a while so my family and me decided it was time. I told him I wanted to commit to Clemson. He was real excited."
The entire family is pleased with Antwan's decision. "They love Clemson. They really like the atmosphere down there," said Murchison.
When asked how strong his commitment was to the Tigers, Murchinson responded, "It's pretty strong."
The Gamecocks and Coach Stockstill are trying their best to see if they can sway the Tar Heel standout. "I am only taking two visits. I will visit Clemson and South Carolina. I'm just going to take the visit. I setup the visit long before I committed to Clemson."
Why did the North Carolina standout decide to commit to the Tigers? "It felt like home. I really liked the facilities. They also have my major. I want to major in Computer Engineering. I like the atmosphere at Clemson. I'm also very excited about the Westzone. I also really like the hill."
Qualifying will not be an issue for Murchinson. "I have about a 3.4 GPA and scored 1150 on my SAT," Murchinson added.
Coach Ron West in recruiting the talented defender for the Tigers now. "Coach Lovett and Coach West have been recruiting me. They called me once a week. Now that coach Lovett is gone Coach West is taking everything over."
Murchinson is also a great basketball player for Pinecrest High. "We are 5-0. I play forward and I average 18 points. I made All-Conference last year and led the conference in rebounds. I am leading in rebounds again this year."
We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding defensive end from North Carolina, right up through signing day 2005.
