* Greenwood linebacker Alonzo Higgins may be one of the most physically impressive athletes on the South Carolina squad this year.

* On the recruiting front, several options remain firmly in place for Higgins, however all of them involve junior college. "I messed up one year," said Higgins of his academics. "I learned my lesson though. It was my sophomore year."

* Clemson remains in contact, and could go through with a sign and place scenario. "I've been talking a lot with Clemson," said Higgins. "They are talking about placing me in junior college, but I really won't know for sure until January probably. I should hear some more from them then."

* Higgins is familiar with several of his teammates, including Clemson verbal commitment Rendrick Taylor, and Conway defensive lineman Hivera Green. "Rendrick is a quiet guy, but we get along," said Higgins. "Me and Hivera had a good time playing Madden last night. It's good to be around all these guys."

* During this week of practice leading up to the Shrine Bowl, Higgins says it's important for him to leave an impression on the visiting collegiate coaches. "I'm aiming to improve my game," said Higgins. "That's the main thing. I've got a lot to prove out here, I want to show everybody what I can do on the field." Top Stories
