Tigers Grab DB Chris Carter

Help is on the way in the Tigers' secondary. Tommy Bowden and company have now received their 18th verbal commitment for the 2002 class. DB Chris Carter of Kannapolis, NC has said that he will be in a Clemson uniform next fall.

Carter is 5-10, 170 lbs, has been clocked at a legitimate 4.4 in the 40-yard dash, and figures to be able to come in and compete as early as next season for playing time.

As a Shrine Bowl participant for the North Carolina squad, Carter rushed for nealy 1,300 yards and scored 21 touchdowns this season while help leading his team to the Class AAA playoffs and a 10-4 record.

Carter is also a standout track performer for his school (Brown).

The Tigers recruited Carter as a defensive back, so he'll have his chance in the Clemson secondary this fall. Judging by all the reports available on his skills in the defensive backfield, it is likely that he could crack the two deep depth chart as a true freshman.

Carter was scheduled to take two more official visits in the course of the next few weeks, but he has cancelled both now that he has reached a final decision.

Chris Carter committed to the Tigers after meeting with Thielen Smith yesterday evening.
