Thursday Recruiting Tidbits

Its been a busy week for Coach Bowden and the rest of the Clemson coaching staff. We've got the latest on several key players, including Randy Jackson, Chris White, and Stephen Sene.

  • OL Stephen Sene has now narrowed his choices down to three schools, and the Tigers appear to be in good shape.

"Clemson, South Carolina, and Virginia are all even. I cancelled my trip to Virginia Tech, so they are out of the picture," said Sene.

  • Chris White had a great official visit this weekend up in Clemson. Friday evening he had dinner with the Bowden family and then he was hosted by former teammate Rodney Feaster.

He was quoted as saying that his visit couldn't have been any better and that Clemson and South Carolina are still the two schools to beat.

Coach Stockstill visited White yesterday evening and it appears as though Chris will make his final decision after visiting the Gamecocks this weekend. Expect an announcement sometime next week.

  • As we first reported earlier in the week on the Premium Message Board, the national junior college defensive player of the year, Randy Jackson is not a lock to come to Clemson University. Randy has been wavering in his verbal commitment to the Tigers since this past weekend.

Apparently, the Gamecock's defensive scheme is very similar to that which was ran at Jackson's junior college, and Jackson's high school coach has been pushing for Randy to commit to South Carolina.

The fact is that Randy Jackson is one of the most important prospects of the 2002 class. It will be very important for Coach Bowden and his staff to do everything possible to "close the deal." We will continue to keep you updated on this situation as we receive more information, but understand at this point his situation is still very much up in the air.

  • Tommy Bowden and Rick Stockstill visited Camden WR Kelvin Grant Wednesday night. Grant will then be visited by Lou Holtz Thursday evening. He is still between Clemson, Georgia, and South Carolina, although it appears the Gamecocks might have the slight edge.

USC verbal commitment Troy Williamson has reportedly been pushing hard for Grant to come to South Carolina.
