The Yellow Jackets led 15-13 with just over ten minutes left in the first half before scoring 14 straight points in just over two minutes to take a 29-13 lead.
Clemson would never recover.
In fact, the starting backcourt for the Tigers would not score a single point until the 16:27 mark in the second half. Tony Stockman and Edward Scott combined to shoot 3-of-17 for the game.
Unfortunately, the road doesn't get any easier for the Tigers. Clemson will battle Virginia in Charlottesville on Sunday.
Larry Shyatt Quotes:
"Georgia Tech played very well the first 20 minutes. They had one great run, when they hit about 4 3-pointers in a row. We really never gave ourselves a chance. We put ourselves in a very deep hole. We missed a lot of inside shots and jumpshots."
"They tried to make us make some deep shots. I told the guys at halftime that we were embarrassing ourselves in terms of the results. We came out and they scored the first 5 points and that was it. We started with new people and they brought new energy to the game. Alot of people did good things for short periods of time, but that one stretch was too much to overcome."
"I just though there were no bad nights left, this was just a bad night. We lost by 20 points, but this might have been a 40-point loss a year ago. Interestingly enough, one of the comments in the locker room was that we get our energy when we make shots, and when we start missing, its almost impossible for us to be energized."
The Virginia game will be another test, it will be a great test. Our guys are still thinking about postseason play, but we've made it tough on ourselves.
