2003 Profile: DL Josh Thompson

With all the success the Clemson coaching staff had in landing quality prospects in Georgia this past year, you have to figure that Tommy Bowden will keep a strong focus on the Peach State for years to come. In 2003, he'll want to look at DL Josh Thompson out of Statesboro.

We continue to focus on the state of Georgia with a look at Josh Thompson, a strong defensive lineman out of Statesboro, Georgia.

Josh has been a starter on the defensive line for two years, mostly at the noseguard position. This past season he registered 91 tackles, and 9.5 sacks while helping lead his team to the AAAA championship.

Josh was also named all-state by the Jacksonville Herald and the Augusta Chronicle.

"I feel like he's one of the top defensive linemen in the state, and he's just a junior." said Statesboro's Buzz Busby said. "The thing that makes him a great football player is just his unbelievable love for the game. He just thrives on playing football, and he's an unbelievable athlete."

"I'll do anything to make a tackle," Thompson said in a recent interview. "You play with a little intensity and you'll get it done."

Thompson is the only athlete that has ever started on either side of the line as a true freshman for Coach Busby. And thats over the course of coaching football for 31 years.

He is noted as a player with great quickness and strength, and he figures to play somewhere on the defensive line at the next level. He currently is listed at 6'0 and 282 lbs.

Josh has already been hearing from schools like Auburn, Clemson, and Georgia, and you can bet a whole bunch more will come calling before the recruiting process is said and done.
