Maryland Rallies Past Clemson

The Tigers held a 4-point lead at halftime but in the end, the Maryland Terrapins proved to be the better team. The Terps made 12 of their first 14 shots of the second half to take control the game and send the Tigers to their 11th loss in the last 12 games.

Juan Dixon scored 21 points to lead the second-ranked Terrapins past the Clemson Tigers 84-68 Wednesday evening in Littlejohn Coliseum.

Clemson led by as many as eight points in the first half as the Terps came out flat and uninspired. Jamar McKnight's follow shot at the buzzer would give the Tigers a surprising 35-31 halftime lead.

Unfortunately for Clemson fans, the Terps opened up the second half on fire, hitting 5 of their first 7 shots. Maryland would rally to the take over the lead 5 minutes into the second half.

"They were up 52-49 with about 13 minutes to play and I figured we had weathered their storm, but then they go on a run, and we never recovered," said Clemson head coach Larry Shyatt. "Ray got in foul trouble and Hobbs got in foul trouble right about that point and that hurt us going down the stretch. Ed Scott also was a bit injured, but he'll be okay on Saturday."

The Terps would go on a 17-5 run to put the game away. Drew Nicholas drilled a 3-pointer and Juan Dixon followed with consecutive 3-pointers seal the deal.

The Tigers now stand 12-15 overall, and 3-11 in ACC play. Clemson will close out their home schedule against the Florida State Seminoles Saturday at noon.

"We are hoping to get some rest Thursday and Friday. Florida State just knocked off Virginia tonight so we have our work cut out for us. If we can get these last two games, we'll be at sixth place for the tournament," said Coach Shyatt.

With the win, the Maryland Terrapins moved one step closer to clinching the ACC Regular Season title.
