Quick Hits with Herman Demmink

CLEMSON - CUTigers.com checks in with Herman Demmink after Tuesday night's win over College of Charleston.

This team is obviously playing its best baseball of the year right now. Can you talk about how things appear to be coming together a lot more now than they did at the beginning of the year?
Demmink: Quite honestly, the early part of the year, people weren't playing as well as they should. I'm not saying we are peaking right now, but we are starting to put things together and it feels pretty good.

It also seems like that it was just a few weeks ago that a lot of people may have been down on this team. That seems to have all changed recently.
Demmink: Coach told us before the game, and I didn't realize this, but for the second half of the season we are 18-6. That, to me, was a surprising number. A couple of weeks ago we had two or three shaky losses. We dropped a pretty close one to Virginia Tech, but ever since, for five or six games straight, things are going really well.

Hosting a regional- is that something you guys are talking about more and more after this win and what you accomplished last week?
Demmink: Of course, that's one of our main goals right now. I'm not sure if it's going to take sweeping the weekend. Maybe if we win the weekend, we could host. We might even be a two seed here. We need to do whatever we can to play here. We have great fans and we want to play in front of them.

Now you've got a big series with Miami coming up this weekend....your thoughts on that?
Demmink: It's going to be a great challenge. They've got great starting pitching, we know that and it's going to be a challenge. Hopefully we can put it together and get it done this weekend.
