Quick Hits with Tyler Colvin

Colvin's three-run homerun in the sixth inning was the turning point Saturday.

Tyler, that homerun really seemed to change the entire complexion of this game. Just talk about the pitches he was throwing you and what you were looking for up there at the plate.
Colvin: Well my first two at bats I missed some pitches that I should have hit well. And then in that at bat he threw the same pitches he threw me the last time I was up there. And I got that last one. I didn't miss it.

That homerun really seemed to be the difference in the this game.
Colvin: Exactly. We were looking for that big inning and that pretty much sparked it right there. I think it lifted a lot of weight off of our shoulders to go ahead and get that kind of inning when we did.

You guys have won nine games in a row now. Realistically, did you think you would be able to do that and then sweep the fourth ranked team in the country in the process?
Colvin: I think all along we knew it was going to be a big challenge and that we were going to have to step it up. Beating Carrillo, that's a pretty big feat right there. What did he win, 23 or 24 games in a row? That was tough to break, but we did it.

Now you guys have the ACC Tournament in front of you and you are coming in as one of the hottest teams in the conference.
Colvin: You want to win the ACC Tournament, no doubt. I think the thing is we'd really like to get to 40 wins. If we do that, then obviously we will have gone pretty deep in the ACC Tournament. Then, if you can win the ACC Tournament, that gives you even more momentum going into a regional.

In your mind, has this team done enough to host a regional?
Colvin: Of course. The last half of the season we've played really well and that's saying something. Now, beating the No. 4 team in the nation says even more.
