Clay-Chalkville High School
Pinson, Alabama
NR: 20 Rating: ***

The Stats: Terrell Smith helped lead his team to an 8-2 regular season record by catching over 60 passes for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also recorded three interceptions from his free safety position. Smith, who was recruited to Clemson by Dabo Swinney, chose the Tigers over offers from Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi, LSU, and Tennessee.

Strength: Smith has the frame to become a physical presence on either side of the ball. "I'm aggressive once the ball goes in the air," said Smith. "I can get physical with as a safety or go up and get the ball as a wide receiver. If I'm playing offense, I feel like I have a big edge over the defensive backs because I know what route I am running and they don't."

Why Clemson? "Most schools were recruiting me as a wide receiver," said Smith. "Clemson likes me as a wide receiver. I just feel real comfortable out there. The decision was basically between Clemson and Ole Miss, and Clemson is real stable, so I jumped on it. Coach Swinney, he stayed on top of everything. Every time they got a commitment, he let me know how they full they were getting and let me know what was going on."

Tidbit: Smith was one of the top ranked prospects on the Tigers board at both wide receiver and safety. "I could play either position," said the Alabama native. "It doesn't really matter as long as I'm on the field." During his high school career, Smith was named a three-time All-State selection, he was also named to the all-county and all-metro teams all three years as well.
Coach Dabo Swinney Says: "You can think of Terrell Smith kind of like the Rendrick Taylor of Alabama. He's extremely physical, and he's another one of the guys in this class that could have a chance to come in and contribute early in his career."
