At 5-11 and 210 pounds, Jones put on a show at a few different camps/combines this past spring and his performance proved he's one of the state's best. Although he only had about 50 yards in his team's spring game, Jones is ready for a breakout season.
"There are no excuses this season," Jones said. "I'm ready to show everybody what I'm capable of doing. I've been working real hard and I'll be doing it this summer too."
Jones was shredding opposing defenses until he suffered a high ankle sprain in the team's sixth game last season. He had 738 yards and 10 touchdowns in five games.
Jones, a full academic qualifier thanks to a 920 SAT score, had a busy spring talking to college coaches. "It seems like we had seven or eight coaches in there every day," he said. "I got three offers in writing so far (FAU, FIU, and Temple) but there were a lot of people who said they want me and just need to see a little more I guess. I just gotta be patient."
Jones has a top five that is made up of schools from outside the state. "It's Iowa, Pittsburgh, Clemson, Louisville, and Ohio State," he said. "They all called me within the last few weeks. I also talked to Urban Meyer. They're really the only big Florida school that called. Miami came but they didn't call."
Jones plans on attending camps at UCF and Florida this summer. In the meantime, he'll be preparing for what he hopes can be a 2,000 yard season. "That's what I'm shooting for," he said. "I just wanna help our team win. I wanna be known as a big back who can go between the tackles and run away from people."
College coaches from all over the country will find that out real soon this season.
