One of the top athletes in the state of South Carolina in 2002 is Russell Hemby (6'1,205,4.5), a quarterback out of familiar school for Clemson fans- Orangeburg-Wilkenson. O-W is the school of former Tiger QB Woody Dantzler and current WR Jackie Robinson.

Last season, Hemby completed 188 of 305 passes (61%) for 1825 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Hemby is very similar to Woody Dantzler in that his style of play allows him to beat you on the ground or through the air. The difference is that Hemby is about 2 and half inches taller, so he could have he opportunity to play in the secondary or as a receiver at the next level. Russell is also a strong player, maxing out his bench-press at 320 lbs.

As of right now, Hemby is receiving interest from schools all across the southeast, including Clemson, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wake Forest and East Carolina. If he ends up playing at the Division I-A level, he'll most likely make a position switch.

Hemby projects as a full qualifier with a GPA over 3.5 and an SAT score of over 1000. We will continue to keep you updated on Russell Hemby as we receive more information on him throughout the spring and summer.
