Alabama DL Expecting Clemson Offer

Shades Valley High School possesses two of the top players in the southeast with running back, Eugene Sowell, and offensive lineman Taylor Pharr. Another star on the team is Rodney Prince. Prince is a quick defensive end and has acquired three scholarship offers.

"I have offers from Troy, Southern Miss, and Mississippi State," said Rodney Prince. "Mississippi State offered me this past weekend after I attended their camp. I feel like Clemson, UAB, Memphis, and Arkansas are all very close to offering me."

The 6-3, 230-pound defensive end felt with a solid camp performance in Starkville the Bulldogs would extend an offer. When Prince returned home from camp, he received the official word. "Mississippi State officially offered me after the camp," said Prince. "Coach [Freddie] Kitchens called me Sunday night to let me know I had the offer. They told me before I came to camp, if I did well they would offer me. I am going to call Coach [Sylvester] Croom tonight."

"I am very excited about the offer. They were the first SEC school to offer me. I really like Coach Croom. He is a great person on-and-off the field," Prince added.

Before going to Starkville Sunday, Prince was in Tuscaloosa for Alabama's mini-camp Saturday. "I felt like the Alabama camp went pretty well," he said. "It was the first time I have been able to speak with the Alabama coaches. I really liked Coach [Paul] Randolph and Coach [Buddy] Wyatt. I feel like I will hear from them soon. I am interested in Alabama. I would definitely be looking at them if they start showing more interest."

When asked about favorites Prince replied, "Right now, I would have to say my favorites are Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, and Clemson. Auburn is my overall favorite. I really like the coaches. It's close to home. They have a lot of tradition, and they have a great defense."

Prince talks about his other favorites.

Ole Miss: "Well, I went to camp there last week. It went really good. I spoke to Coach Orgeron and the defensive line coach. I really like all the coaches. They seem to have a lot of energy. I like the campus and the new indoor facility. I believe they are going to go far in the SEC." Southern Miss: "I like them a lot. Coach Bower is a great coach. They always have a top program, and they are always on top in Conference USA. They produce a lot of NFL talent as well."

Clemson: "Coach Hobby and Coach Swinney are both recruiting me from Clemson. They are both great guys and coaches. Coach Hobby is originally from Shades Valley. He used to live close to me. Clemson also has great tradition."

During his junior campaign, Prince recorded 120 tackles with 10 sacks. He also caused four forced fumbles with three fumble recoveries. Prince is known for his speed and his intensity to make big plays. He knows his speed is a vital strength, and he knows what he needs to improve.

"My quickness and my speed are my two biggest strengths. At the Mountain Brook combine I ran a 4.51 in the forty. Another one of my strengths is coming off the ball from my defensive end position. It's hard for offensive linemen to block me because I am a lot faster and can get to the ball carrier a lot quicker. I feel like my knowledge of the game is a strength. I break down every film trying to pick up something new. I still need to work on everything overall. The main thing I need to work on is my lower body strength," said Prince.

Prince plans to camp at Auburn and UAB later in the summer. Top Stories
