Wade is now the fifth verbal commitment to the Clemson Tigers.

The Clemson coaching staff offered Wade today, and he committed on the spot.

Wade's family also has Clemson ties. Michael's father played for the 1981 National Championship team.

The rising senior also had offers from Duke and Maryland, although sources maintain that this was likely coming down to a two-horse race between the Terps and Tigers.

As a junior, Wade threw for 1,388 yards and nine touchdowns on 51% passing, while rushing for 623 (net) yards and another six scores on the ground.

Wade is also an outstanding student, currently ranking 13th in his class of over 300 students with a 4.56 GPA.

Wade told Scout.com just a few days ago, "If Clemson offered me, I would definitely have to think about it. "My father went to Clemson and I could follow in his footsteps, but I might also carve out my own perch. He doesn't give me any pressure at all. He says he isn't forcing me to go to his school, by any means."

Clemson recruiting coordinator David Blackwell was Wade's primary recruiter.

Wade is also a member of the Scout.com East Region Top 100.
