Julius Wilkerson has publicly denied a leader throughout the recruiting process. Even as late as last week, the Gaffney native was quoted as saying he had no leader, nor a timeframe for a decision when it came to choosing where he'd play his college football next year.

But all of that seemingly changed in an instant.

"I talked with my mom yesterday (about committing)," Wilkerson told CUTigers.com Sunday evening. "I told her I wanted to go ahead and commit. She said it was my decision and that she was all for it if I knew what I was going to do."

Wilkerson then headed to Clemson for the Tigers' team passing camp.

"I went up for the 7-on-7 tournament. And then I just went over and told Coach Blackwell straight up that I wanted to commit to Clemson," said Wilkerson.

And what was Coach Blackwell's reaction? "He was real happy. Then I talked with Coach Bowden on the phone. He was glad I was coming to Clemson," added Wilkerson.

The future Clemson defender says he fits more an outside linebacker role than anything else. "I think I will play outside linebacker there," said Wilkerson. "They need more guys like me so I think I'm going to fit in just fine."

And how firm is Wilkerson's commitment?

"I'm committed to Clemson, but I will probably at least take some other visits as well," said Wilkerson.

The future Tiger also told CUTigers.com just last week that he's been working extremely hard in the weight room this offseason in preparation for his senior year.

"I am lifting weights and running a lot. I want to get my speed up this summer and work on that some," he said.

As a junior, Wilkerson recorded over 150 tackles and nine tackles for loss for the Gaffney Indians. His primary recruiter to Clemson was David Blackwell.
