WestZone Impresses Fast Rising Prospect

The Tigers already have commitments from several of the top prospects in South Carolina for the 2006 class. This weekend one of the top defensive backs in the Palmetto state, Darius Gaither, visited Clemson and left very impressed. CUTigers.com has all the details in this recruiting update.

"The 6-1, 200 pound safety prospect Darius Gaither traveled to Clemson this weekend with several of his Fairfield-Central teammates. "I came to Clemson for the 7-on-7 tournament. I enjoyed it a lot. I really liked it up there. We did well too (in the tournament). I think we made it to the quarterfinals," Gaither told CUTigers.com Monday afternoon.

Overall, Gaither seemed to be very impressed with Tiger Town. "The campus is nice. It's a nice little town. I like how the whole town is into football too because it's a lot like where I am from. The small town helps keep you out of trouble too and I like how neat it is. Everybody is right around each other," he said.

Gaither also spent time speaking with several of members of the coaching staff during his visit. "Yeah I spoke with Coach Scott, Coach Bowden, Coach Burns and Coach Vic. They just asked me how I like it. They wanted to know what my thoughts are. Just stuff like that."

The new WestZone facility also seemed to make a big impression on Gaither. "I saw the new West Endzone. That thing is beautiful. They take care of the football players there. It's amazing how all of that is just for the football players," Gaither said.

In terms of offers, the Fairfield-Central standout says that a whole host of schools are already on board.

"I have offers from Auburn, Tennessee, North Carolina State, Maryland, Wake Forest, North Carolina, South Carolina and Clemson. Clemson had already offered before this weekend, but they offered me in person this weekend," he said.

When asked if he has any leaders or favorites, Gaither responded, "I wouldn't say that right now. Right now I look at all of them the same. I want to wait and see how they do this season."

Expect the battle for the Palmetto standout to last until February. "I will make my final decision on signing day," state Gaither. Gaither also added that he will visit two SEC powers later this summer. "I am probably going to visit Tennessee. I will also visit Auburn." We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding defensive back from South Carolina, right up through signing day.
