During his last weekend of summer camps, Vince Jacobs attempted to continue his streak of earning offers from camp performances. Although he was successful in reaching the goal at North Carolina's camp, he is still waiting on the verdict from N.C. State's coaches.
"North Carolina verbally offered me and gave me a written scholarship offer before I left, but N.C. State didn't, yet," said Jacobs. "[N.C. State] is supposed to be calling me either today or tomorrow, but even with that call they aren't really high on our interest list right now.
"The number one reason is their graduation rate, which is at 39% right now. We tried to ask the coaching staff about it, and we didn't see any implemented plans to try to fix it or improve it so it's not a situation we want to be apart of."
After the new developments, Jacobs, a 6-foot-7, 210-pound tight end from Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day, has given his favorites list a facelift.
"Right now my top five – in no particular order – is Virginia, [North] Carolina, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and Clemson," said Jacobs.
Just like his favorites list, Jacobs has seen some change in the position he is being recruited for.
"Since I ran a 4.65 [seconds in the 40-yard dash] and this week I did it again, they are starting to look at me more as a wide receiver," said Jacobs. "Most schools are pretty much saying if I come in next year and I'm at 220 [pounds] or so and I'm still running a 4.6-4.7 they are going to put me out at receiver. And if I'm 240-245-250 [pounds], they'll put me at tight end. It all depends on how I develop."
Jacobs made an unexpected visit to another in-state school last week before the weekend's camps.
"I visited Wake Forest Tuesday," said Jacobs. "We just wanted to take a look at it more. They just showed us around, and we met the academic staff. They showed us pretty much everything."
A virtual unknown before the summer, Jacobs has earned offers from Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Virginia, Georgia Tech, and Clemson shortly after attending each school's respective camps.
Jacobs will announce his decision Tuesday afternoon.
