6-foot-5, 235-pound tight end prospect Ben Cleveland traveled with his father to Tiger Town this weekend to take a tour of Clemson University. CUTigers.com caught up with Cleveland after his trip to get the latest on his recruitment, and more.
"The visit went real well. I came up with my dad and we took a tour of the facilities," Cleveland said. "I got to meet some of the players. We also got to see about the academic side."
The Arkansas native also met with the Clemson coaching staff.
"Coach Napier was my recruiter until he left, so Coach Scott is now recruiting me. I got to meet with all of the coaches this weekend. It went real well. I was very impressed with that, and so was my dad," Cleveland said.
In terms of recruiting, Cleveland has plenty of scholarship offers to choose from, including schools like Florida, Iowa, Clemson, Virginia, Colorado and Michigan State. "I have over 20 offers," he said. "The Clemson offer came in the middle of the pack."
When asked if he has any favorites, Cleveland responded, "I am down to a top five. My top five right now are Florida, Colorado, Clemson, Iowa and Oklahoma State."
Interestingly enough, a commitment could be just days away. "I plan to make a commitment late this week or early next week. I should have a decision hopefully by Wednesday," he said.
What is the most important factor in his decision? "It just comes down to what system you fit in," Cleveland said. "I want to go where I think I can go and play and contribute. I want to go somewhere that I can get the ball. I want to catch 30 or 40 balls a year."
Finally, early playing time will not be a factor for the prize recruit. "That would be nice," he said. "But I know my time will come and the lord will bless it."
CUTigers.com will continue to keep you updated on Ben Cleveland, right up through signing day.
