2003 Profile: RB Nathaniel Smith

RB Nathaniel Smith, out of Georgetown High School is one of the top returning running backs in the state of South Carolina. Smith rushed for almost 1,300 yards last season while help leading his team to a 8-3 record.

Nathaniel Smith (6'0, 200) has been tearing up football fields in South Carolina for two years now. Last season he gained 1,281 yards on 146 carries and scored 19 touchdowns, and the year before he registered a mind boggling 1,420 yards rushing on 172 carries and another scoring 19 scores.

Smith has been hearing from schools all over the south east, including Clemson, South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia. As it stands now, he will likely set up visits with both South and North Carolina, as well as Clemson and possibly Georgia.

Mike O'Cain has been the Clemson coach in contact most recently.

Smith looks solid on the academic front with a GPA of over 2.5, however he has yet to take his SAT or ACT.

Overall, you have to love a kid that averages over 8 yards a carry during his high school career- and thats exactly what Smith has done through his first 3 seasons of football at Georgetown High School.

Smith is certainly one of the top 4 or 5 running backs in the state of South Carolina this year. He's an agressive, tough runner thats not afraid to gamble in the backfield, and he seems to initiate contact with opposing defenders.

Smith has been clocked right around the 4.4 mark in the 40-yard dash, and with that kind of speed, his stock will continue to rise as more colleges become aware of his talents. We'll have more on Nathaniel Smith as we receive more information throughout the summer.
