2003 Profile: QB Eric McCollum

Eric McCollum had one incredible season last year for the Camden Bulldogs. He threw for over 2,700 yards and 29 touchdowns while leading his team to a 15-0 record and the South Carolina 3A state title. He'll get the chance to do it all over again this year, but this time he won't have the luxury of throwing to Kelvin Grant. Can he do it?

QB Eric McCollom (6-0, 175, 4.6) was magnificent last season for the Camden Bulldogs, passing his way into the record books, and knocking down a state championship along the way.

This year, Mr. McCollom will have to do it without the help of Kelvin Grant, one of the top wide receivers ever to come out of the state of South Carolina. Can he do it?

You bet he can.

McCollom, who has a great head on his shoulders with a 3.3 GPA, figures to be a full qualifier next year, and his on the field talent will surely push him up as one of the top quarterbacks in South Carolina.

Eric is dual-threat quarterback. He has excellent vision in the pocket, as well as great quickness in the open field. To go along with his incredible passing statistics last year, he also rushed for over 230 yards on 31 carries and scored another 8 touchdowns. He also makes good decisions on the football field, as he registerd only 8 interceptions last season in over 230 passing attempts.

He certainly has the ability to become a successful Division I-A quarterback. He has decent size at 6'1, a lively arm, and outstanding quickness. How the collge coaches evaluate him this May, and how he performs next season, and will likely go a long way in determining which schools begin to come in with scholarship offers.

The Tigers have already been in touch with McCollum, with Rick Stockstill maintaining the closest contact. Eric will also be attending camps at South Carolina, Tennessee, Penn State and Clemson later this summer.

We'll have more on Mr. McCollum in the upcoming weeks.
