McDaniel Commits!

"I really liked the depth chart (at Clemson)," McDaniel said. "I could see that they needed safeties. I wanted to go ahead and commit so it would help bring in some more bigtime recruits."

McDaniel, who was recruited to Clemson by assistant coach Dabo Swinney, is the 11th verbal commitment in the 2006 recruiting class.

"I called Coach Swinney last night and talked with him," McDaniel said in an interview with CUTigers.com Tuesday morning. "I called him back this morning and he was in a meeting with the coaching staff. He put me on the phone with them and I committed.

"They told me I was a big recruit for Clemson," he added. "They said they are looking forward to me coming in next year. They told me to stick my head out the window and I should be able to hear them screaming all the way from South Carolina."

Why did McDaniel go ahead and make his decision this early in the recruiting process?

"I really liked the depth chart," he said. "I could see that they needed safeties. I wanted to go ahead and commit so it would help bring in some more bigtime recruits."

McDaniel also said he likes the small town atmosphere in Clemson. "Clemson is a great football town," he said. "I really like that."

The rising senior had a productive year on both sides of the ball last season.

From his wide receiver position, he hauled in 27 catches for 657 yards and six touchdowns. At safety, McDaniel had 53 tackles, eight interceptions, and he returned three of those for touchdowns.

"I'm just glad I'm getting this all behind me now," McDaniel added. "I'll probably come up for the Florida State game this season."

McDaniel also made the trip up to Clemson earlier this year for the Orange & White game in mid-April. While he was there, he spent a majority of his time talking with former Tiger corner Justin Miller.
