6-1, 180 pound wide receiver/safety prospect DeAndre McDaniel is having an outstanding senior season for Godby High (Fla.). "I have over 30 tackles, two interceptions and one forced fumble," McDaniel told CUTigers.com Tuesday. "I have over 270 yards receiving and one touchdown. We are 3-1 on the season."
Several reports have listed McDaniel as more of a "soft commitment" to Clemson in recent weeks. So just what does McDaniel have to say about his verbal commitment to Clemson right now?
"To be honest, it's pretty firm. That is all that is out there right now, just rumors mainly," he said.
At the same time, he does insist that he will be taking an official visit or two. "I've said before I probably will visit some other schools. I'm not sure which other schools I might visit, but I probably will," McDaniel said.
"Clemson is still way ahead of the others right now. I know they have lost two games, but the games have been close. They are playing hard."
To no surprise the team to keep an eye on throughout this recruiting process is in McDaniel's own backyard. "The next team to Clemson would be Florida State," he said.
Clemson assistant coach Dab Swinney continues working hard to insure that the talented defender keeps his commitment to the Tigers. "I talked with Coach Swinney last week after the Miami game. He said he wished I had been up there to make a few plays. He said that 'we are just trying to bond together. We are getting close'"
What does the prize recruit like about the Tigers? "I am looking at the depth chart. I know I can go up there and play right away. I am also trying to get out of the city."
McDaniel also says his family has been very supportive of his decision. "They just want me to go somewhere and do good. Wherever I want to go they are with me."
What about unofficial visits? "I didn't go to any games this week," he said. "But I am going to see the Florida State game against Syracuse this weekend."
We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding athlete from Florida, right up through signing day.
