Not a lot of coaches got a good look at Karolis Petrukonis, but one staff got quite familiar with the Lithuanian big man - and that's exactly who he'll play for next year.
Karolis Petrukonis didn't get a lot of time when he played on a loaded Boo Williams team this summer. That probably worked out to Clemson's advantage.
The 6-foot-11, 270-pound senior big man at Norfolk Collegiate (Va.) committed to Clemson.
``He wanted to the opportunity to play and he feels he'll have a chance to play at Clemson," Norfolk Collegiate coach Jim Markey said. "They've been on him the longest, but really it came down to Oliver Purnell."
Petrukonis, who averaged 15 points and 14 boards per game as a junior also considered Utah, Virginia, Purdue and Kansas State.
Petrukonis played in a few tournaments with Boo Williams before playing in international competition in the summer for Lithuania.
``He had a big summer overseas," added Markey. "He played well in France at the Nike Elite Juniors and had 22 points and 9 rebounds in a loss to the United States."
``He's very skilled," he continued. "He can really shoot it, is a good passer, has a good feel for the game and is not a 6-10, 210-pound guy. He likes to face the basket and is comfortable in the post."
