Fla DB Still Firm to Clemson

Tallahassee standout and Clemson verbal commitment DeAndra McDaniel is planning two trips to Clemson over the next few months, including an official visit in which he may be bringing another highly recruited teammate with him. CUTigers.com has all the details in this recruiting update.

The 6-1, 180 pound safety prospect is having an outstanding senior season for Godby High School.

"Yeah right now we are 8-1 on the year. This week I had five tackles and two pass breakups on defense. I had 10 catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns on offense," McDaniel told CUTigers.com in a recent interview.

On the season, McDaniel now has 39 catches for over 650 yards and eight touchdowns on the year. "I also have three interceptions," he added.

The prize recruit will also be traveling to Death Valley in two weeks to see the Tigers take on FSU. "I will be coming up for the Florida State game. I am coming up with my dad and my god brother," McDaniel said.

His teammate, Kareem Crowell, who is currently committed to the Auburn Tigers, is also planning on visiting the Tigers in an official capacity, but McDaniel is unsure if it will be that weekend or not. "I do know that he is suppose to be coming up with me for an official visit. But right now I'm not sure if he will come with me to the Florida State game or not," he said.

The blue-chip prospect recently spoke with another standout from Tallahassee - WR T.J. Williams, who is currently enrolled at Fork Union. "He says he is supposed to be enrolling (at Clemson) in January. I talked with him about a month ago," McDaniel said. "I know he's looking forward to it."

Clemson assistant Dabo Swinney continues to work hard to keep McDaniel committed to the Tigers. "Coach Swinney called me last Thursday. He talked to me about coming up for the FSU game," McDaniel said. "He says I should come in and find a job (playing time). He had hoped I might enroll in January. I won't be able to do that but I told him I would be there for the second summer session."

So how firm is McDaniel's commitment to the Tigers? "It's pretty firm," he responded. "I know I am probably going to sign in February. I want to take some visits, but it will be Clemson in February.

"I will probably decide about the other visits in the next two to three weeks."

Finally, McDaniel made the short trip to Florida State again this weekend. "Yeah I saw them play Maryland this weekend," he said. "I thought Florida State was going to lose the game but they came back."

We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding athlete from Florida, right up through signing day.
