Russell Talks About His Commitment

CUTigers caught up with Chris Russell, the latest verbal commitment to the Clemson Tigers, to get his thoughts on the recruiting process, his role with the team next spring, and much more!

Chris, talk a little bit about how your verbal commitment to Clemson went down this weekend?
Russell: I pretty much knew I would make my commitment this weekend. Coach Vic had been talking with me ever since the spring. I had my mind made up when I came up this weekend. On Sunday morning when I met with Coach Bowden I went ahead and made my commitment. Everyone walked away very happy with my decision.

Why did you pick Clemson?
Russell: Coach Vic and me have built a close relationship. We talked so much from the spring right up to now. He is someone that I trust. I like the defensive scheme they play. I thought Clemson would be the best place for me.

Why did you decide to go ahead and commit this weekend?
Russell: I just wanted to go ahead and get it over with. I know Clemson is where I want to be.

What position do you think you will play for Clemson?
Russell: They are talking about safety or corner. They are recruiting me as an athlete though.

What did you think about the Tigers beating Florida State Saturday?
Russell: It was great. I thought it would be closer than that. Clemson really came out and dominated the game.

What did you think about Death Valley?
Russell: It was incredible. I have never seen anything like it.

What's the story behind you leaving Colorado?
Russell: The coaches that I had built the relationships with left after my freshman year. I just didn't get along as well with the new coaches.

How long has Clemson been recruiting you?
Russell: They were on me out of high school. When I came to Coffeyville, they coach knew coach Koening. He got a call from Coach K saying he was looking for some defensive backs.

What other schools have been recruiting you this fall?
Russell: I have had several Big 12 schools recruiting me. I have heard from Missouri, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Central Florida, Purdue and Baylor.

When will you enroll at Clemson?
Russell: I will be enrolling in January. I want to get there and get ready for spring ball.

How firm is your commitment to Clemson?
Russell: It is solid. I already know that is where I am going to play.

Are you going to take any other official visits?
Russell: No sir, I have cancelled all the other visits.

How many years will you have to play football at Clemson?
Russell: I will have two years left to play.
