Tigers in Good Shape with Junior OL

The state of South Carolina appears to be loaded with talent on the offensive line for the class of 2007, and Greenville's David Smith is one of top players on the board. CUTigers.com caught up with Smith recently to get his early thoughts on the recruiting process, and much more, in this report.

Greenville's David Smith may be somewhat new to the recruiting process, but he already sounds like a seasoned veteran.

In one of his first interviews with any recruiting service, the junior offensive linemen out of Greenville High was very frank about where things stand with him right now.

"Clemson is my only offer at this point. They actually offered me on November 12." Smith told CUTigers.com in a recent interview. "Coach Blackwell is recruiting me for Clemson. They are just sending me a lot of mail right now. I'm not really getting mail from other schools yet."

When asked if he has any early favorites, Smith responded, "My favorite schools other than Clemson would be Miami and Florida State. I would like to see them offer."

The Greenville High standout, who runs a 5.0 forty, should be one of the top tackles in the southeast next year. "I think I had a pretty good year. I just played offense. I played offensive tackle. Clemson wants me at tackle," he said.

Smith, as well as several of his Greenville teammates, will be a frequent visitor on the summertime camp circuit next year.

"I have never camped at Clemson, but I would like to this year. I will also probably camp at Kentucky and Alabama," he said.

But don't expect an early commitment from the Palmetto state junior. "I will probably want to wait and see all of my options. I will want to take my visits after my season.

"This summer I will just run as hard as I can. I will also try to lift as much as possible and just try to get better."

Which team did Smith grow up pulling for? "I grew up rooting for Clemson," Smith added.

We will continue to keep you updated on this outstanding offensive lineman from South Carolina, right up through signing day 2007.
