Blackwell Visits Star Kicker

Shrine Bowl kicker Richard Jackson received an in-home visit from Coach Blackwell earlier this week. has all the details in this recruiting update.

Clemson linebackers coach/recruiting coordinator David Blackwell visited with the Riverside standout Richard Jackson earlier this week. "It went real good. He stopped by school earlier in day. The he went and had dinner with Michael. He stopped by and chatted after that," Jackson told in a recent interview.

"We talked about all kinds of things. We talked about the official visit. We talked about what Clemson will do and what they want me to do. He talked about the Florida State and South Carolina games and how the season finished up. I enjoyed talking about that."

The Shrine Bowl standout already has plans to enroll at Clemson next summer. "I will probably enroll for the second summer session. I would try to enroll for the first session, but our school ends too late," Jackson said.

Interestingly enough, Jackson may also run track this spring. "I might run track this spring just to stay in shape. I'm not sure yet. It's not real demanding as far as practice time. I am going to continue lifting weights," he said.

"I just want to keep doing what I have been doing. In the winter there will be a lot of weight lifting to build some more strength. For next season it will be important to keep kicking during the off-season. Closer to the season I will cut back on the weight lifting. I will work on my sprint work and speed."

What is Jackson looking forward to the most about getting to Clemson? "I just want to take it to the next level. It will be a completely different atmosphere. I am excited about the spotlight. As a kicker you can't hide form the spotlight. I am looking forward to the opportunity to compete. I want to work hard at it and see if I can get in there." Jackson is also expecting an in-home visit from head coach Tommy Bowden after the New Year. "I think Coach Bowden will probably come by in January. I will be away for the Shrine Bowl in December," Jackson added.
